Oil and
Vinegar
By Jason H

Oil and vinegar have been a natural pairing of condiments for hundreds of years, with a
particular focus on their origins in Italy.
Even today at Italian restaurants in theUnited States, it's common for a pair of oil and vinegar bottles to be
on the table, and the server may even pour some of each on a plate in which you can dip your
bread instead of using butter. There is a wide range of both products available, but true food lovers
will opt for the best. The best oil is usually extra virgin olive oil. Many people believe that
the finest vinegar is a balsamic vinegar.
Oil and vinegar are often combined together to form a vinaigrette salad dressing too.
Everyone wonders who the salad dressing brings the two together which everyone knows don't get along and
prefer not to mix. The secret is an emulsifier which helps the two combine together better. In
the case of a vinaigrette, this emulsifier ingredient is
usually a Dijon mustard which helps the vinegar
and oil evenly combine.
It's also a common gift where you have a set of two bottles, one
with a nice oil and one with a nice vinegar. This can be a great gift for foodies, but it's also nice
for someone watching their diet since olive oil on bread can be dramatically more healthy than smearing on
butter since olive oil contains limited saturated fats. These two ancient products have a multitude of
uses in the food industry!
